Sous l'impulsion de Jean Patrick Cosset, MIX CITY est né à l'automne 2000 avec la volonté de créer une musique originale dynamique, généreuse et extravertie. L'idée était d'avoir l'oreille tendue vers toutes les musiques nouvelles (drum'n bass, jungle, hip hop, électro...), tout en gardant une sensibilité acoustique et un savoir faire venant du jazz, de la soul, et du rock progressif.
Le groupe prend le parti de jouer un son "roots" (contrebasse, batterie Gretch, orgue Hammond, piano Wurlitzer, clavinet) tout en y ajoutant des samples ainsi que des traitements sonores sur les instruments.
Rapidement, le répertoire est monté et le trio commence à tourner dans le grand ouest (à peu prés 50 concerts par an). MIX CITY fonctionne alors un peu comme un laboratoire où gravitent des musiciens venant d'horizons très différents (blues, hip hop, pop, fanfares...) Il en découle une collaboration avec le Dj Laurent Allinger (du groupe de pop "Les little rabitts"), le guitariste de blues Arnaud Fradin (du groupe Malted Milk) (présents sur certains titres du CD) ainsi qu'avec le collectif de rap "Contra Dixion" (tchacheurs & DJ). C'est aussi dans cette volonté de mélange que le nom de MIX CITY prend son sens.
De 2002 A 2004 MIX-CITY. Un projet conduit le groupe à se produire régulièrement avec un spectacle interactif entre image vidéo et musique .
On retrouve un aperçu de ce travail avec l'image dans les 4 vidéogrammes présents sur une plage CDRom du disque "On Track" que le groupe enregistre en janvier 2003 pour le label "soleil groove". Le disque sort en Aout 2003 et MIX CITY commence à travailler avec Charlie Art Production qui lui permet de tourner à échelle nationale.
En Janvier 2005 le trio enregistre un 5 titres afin de préparer un nouvel album qui devrait voir le jour à l'automne. Un nouveau travail s'amorce avec DJ Kvin avec qui MIX CITY commence à tourner.
Enregistré en juillet et mixé cet automne le nouvel opus de MIX CITY "A Funny Style" devrait sortir nationalement début mars.

Born through the impetus of Jean-Patrick COSSET in the autumn of 2000, MIX-CITY has from the start aimed at creating a dynamic, generous, extrovert and original soundcape. The idea was to turn an attentive ear to all new forms of music (drum'n'bass, jungle, hip-hop, electro,..) while retaining an acoustic feel and the musical abilities of jazz, soul and prog-rock. The sound is firmly and voluntarily grounded on solid roots, using such instrumentation as double-bass, Gretsch drumkit, Hammond Organ, Wurlitzer piano and Clavinet, while integrating samples and sound treatment of the instruments. With a rapidly expanding set, the trio soon began touring through the whole west of France, averaging 50 shows a year. The band functions as a lab around which musicians from diverse backgrounds and horizons gravitate. Blues, pop-rock, hip-hop and brass band experiments have led to regular collaborations with DJ Laurent Alliger ( from pop band The Little Rabbits), blues guitarist Arnaud Fradin ( from Malted Milk,) who plays on several tracks on the CD, and with the Hip-Hop collective Contra-Dixion ( rappers and DJ's ).
It is of course in this determination to blend sources and experiences that the name of the band takes its full meaning. And since 2002, MIX-CITY has been collaborating on a steady basis with video artist Isabelle DEHAY and this has led them to now regularly appear on stage with a show that is real live interaction between video and music. Examples can be found on the four videos included on a CD-ROM track on their « ON TRACK' » record. « ON TRACK » was recorded in January 2003 for the Paris-based SOLEIL GROOVE label.
MIX-CITY has now played numerous shows in clubs, larger venues and festivals.
